SHOW THEM YOU CARE

Good day friends and family,

Hope this reaches you all in good health and high spirits. I am writing this letter in hopes of gaining your help in helping some underprivileged kids this Christmas season. A couple weeks back I sent out a mass email regarding me taking on the task of giving 200 under privilege kids some toys and other gifts in an attempt to give them some what of an happy holiday season this Christmas ; however, after a couple days of responses and positive feed back the responses started too died down. So far we have received dolls, hot wheel cars, hats, scarves and gloves, socks, basketballs and baseballs; we have about 40 toys more than half of those being little girl’s toys. Nevertheless, Folks have been hitting me up asking what to give and my response to that is anything you can afford to give a child that is less fortunate this season. Image how good you feel when you receive a gift, whether it’s from a family member, friend or even a complete stranger; the notion that your where thought of by someone; anyone, just the gift of giving can create a sense of satisfaction amongst people knowing that there are people out there that actually care. Make an impression on these kids lets let them know that there not alone; anything that these kids get during this time of year would mean so much to them. So please help me help them. If you want to mail gifts or want to give and can’t make it that day please call me and I’ll set up a time to pick up your donation. We are looking to have everything in by the 17th of December. Thank you so much for your time.

Z-BOYS FROM DOGTOWN

Skateboarding was having its second growth spurt after being consigned to the fad trash pile along with hula-hoops and flagpole sitting. With the introduction of polyurethane wheels, the improved speed and performance gave the sport a much-needed shot in the arm. The peak was the Del Mar Nationals in California in 1975, the first national competition held in a decade. At the Nationals was the Zephyr Skate Team. Their skating style was aggressive, unrestrained, and unorthodox. Their attitude was in your face and sure of themselves and their skills. Their story is the focus of Dog town and Z-Boys

Studio one sound was a big sound for reggae in the 60’s and 70’s, one of the records from that era that i was raised on was “NO NO NO” by Dawn Penn. with its soothing sound that I have come to love, The track from dawn Penn takes me back to an earlier time in my life where my father would play music from his time. Every morning after opening his restaurant he would start his day off by playing some of the music from his younger days, even though being a fan of music, the music back then wasn’t appealing to me. However, you know how it is, coming up in your parents house whatever they were into you would have to be into too.  At the end of it all i grew to love, thanks for the memory

RENAISSANCE FINE ART SHOWCASE

Photobucket

I was invited to the Renaissance Fine Art Showcase on Wednesday August 23, 2010 in Harlem. The showcase featured young upcoming Artist and Designers from New York City. The showcase displays art work on canvases to digital graphics and fashion samples the designers. While at the showcase I was following a couple of artists whose work interests me. The two artists that stood out to me were Jay West and Whitney House. Their work promotes thinking out outside the box, while expressing their visions artistically with art from a stand point theory. The passion for the work they have done is vivid and has a strong look you could see in the actual end results. For more of Jay West art work you can visit his website at http://www.jaywestone.com/Look2009.html . check out Whitney House at the following link   whitney-house.blogspot.com

HARLEM'S DOG SHOW

Photobucket

it was a nice day in Harlem. a little breezy but still a nice day, However I spent most of my day inside. In spite of missing a beautiful day I decided to hang out in the evening. Later that evening I went with a couple of friends to catch a late night game in Harlem at the dog show, The dog show tournament was located uptown on 138street on Amsterdam ave, the game started at 9pm.

Photobucket
a couple of my friends were playing in the tournament Kareem the maniac, big Steve the energy god and Abby better know as abb the stab listen out for that name, as one of New York's many underground point guards he is a talented ball player. Abby was the highlight of last night’s game with a number of points and assists Abby control the tempo of the game with his keen ball I Q and the ability to control the ball. Through the four quarters of play the game was always close, it was a battle the biggest margin in the game was by ten points in the third quarter.
Photobucket
The last minutes of the game was rough, it was a nail biter it went down to the bitter end the orange and green team was tied at 59 points a piece, that’s were Abby step up and took the game in his hands and play threw the edgy competition to make the game winning shot to take it home .the basketball game at the dog show between the orange and green was a good game, one I haven’t seen in a while, it was really a good game and I enjoyed it.  the next Time you visit Harlem make sure you leave your schedule open so you could sit and watch a game in the neighborhood, trust me you will enjoy it, I am looking forward to checking out some other games before the summer is over myself.
